REDD NEWS: Planning Secured for 6 Charles Street

REDD has secured planning for the redevelopment of 6 Charles Street, which will see the refurbishment of the existing building and the adjacent mews property on Hays Mews turned into 11 residences. The residential development is set to hit the super-prime rental market in Autumn 2024.

Speaking to the wider demand for high-calibre rental properties in the city, 6 Charles Street is located in London’s fashionable and affluent Mayfair district moments from Berkeley Square and will be the benchmark for super-prime rental. Taking inspiration from everything from fashion and lifestyle trends to local architecture, nearby restaurants and surrounding parks, the site will be transformed into a collection of city sanctuaries with an emphasis on sustainable luxury – a brand value of all REDD developments.

Acting on behalf of a private investor, REDD has led the project, brokering the leasehold site assembly freehold acquisition, appointing the project team and working closely with MSMR Architects to secure planning permission for the ambitious project.

Dovetailing the planning news, REDD has also confirmed that the interior design studio, 1508 London, will lead on the design of the significant super-prime rental scheme. 1508 London is an international interior design studio specialising in private residential, hospitality and multi-unit developments worldwide and with a reputation for pushing boundaries to create bespoke and exceptional spaces.

In tandem with MSMR, a leading London-based architects studio, specialising in the Prime Central London residential, commercial and heritage sectors, REDD has devised an ambitious extension and reconfiguration of the building and adjoining mews.

The properties themselves, which feel almost Parisian in style owing to exceptionally tall ceilings and period detailing, reaching up to 4.5 metres in places, will be designed to emphasise the sheer volume of the spaces. Showing its pedigree and longevity as a prime London address, the building is a mix of different century influences, blending both Georgian and Victorian, and this will be further embellished in the design, both architecturally and in the interiors.

Complementing their heritage features, the rental properties – which will be accessible via a luxurious ground floor entrance lobby complete with Georgian period cornices and elegant marble floor – will channel classical and timeless styling by encompassing rich stones and timbers to contrast against fresh light walls with pops of regal colours. At the same time, the properties will provide a blank canvas for residents to easily make their own.

As well as using hand-crafted materials and bespoke finishes echoing the local heritage and surroundings, the properties will feature a myriad of cultural influences via artwork, lighting and accessories. For sustainability, the residences will also maximise the use of natural light with minimal water and non-toxic sustainable materials to be used throughout the entire renovation process. Work is due to start on-site in late 2022.
