The REDD Insider's Guide to Mayfair

Here at REDD we are fortunate to have our London headquarters on Old Burlington Street, in the heart of Mayfair. This location – and the many projects we have developed in the area – have given us extensive knowledge and experience of this very special part of the capital.

A centre for culture and entertainment, the W1J area plays host to pioneering independent galleries and global art fairs, alongside many of London’s finest hotels, restaurants and clubs. We have put together an insider’s guide to exploring the area.

Pubs and Bars

The Audley

A popular spot for after-work drinks, this traditional pub is located on South Audley Street. With comfortable mahogany seating areas and a ceiling painted by Phyllida Barlow, the Audley serves ale from Sambrook’s Brewery in Battersea. A menu of classic bar food includes scotch eggs and London Particular, a pea soup that once lent its name to the city’s famous smog.

Upstairs, the Audley also houses Mount Street Restaurant, which serves delicious British dishes by head chef Jamie Shears, in four rooms decorated with modern art.

Le Magritte

The bar at the Beaumont Hotel on Balderton Street is a stylish and sophisticated tribute to the Roaring Twenties, with leather seating, atmospheric lighting and classic cocktails featuring bourbon and rye.

Designed by Nina Campbell, the welcoming space features works by Van Dongen, Picasso and Magritte himself.

Coburg Bar

Intimate and inviting, the Connaught Hotel’s Coburg Bar overlooks Carlos Place. It’s a more relaxed alternative to the main Connaught Bar, with discreet but attentive service.

With an extensive menu of wine, champagne and classic cocktails, the Coburg Bar is an ideal place to sink into an armchair and while away an evening.

Dining

Jamavar

Michelin-starred Jamavar serves pan-Indian dishes including Old Delhi butter chicken and jackfruit cutlets in opulent surroundings inspired by the Viceroy’s House in New Delhi.

Located on Mount Street, Jamavar offers both tasting menus and à la carte, as well as private dining for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Mercato Mayfair

Sustainable food company Mercato set up its second London site in St Mark’s Church on North Audley Street. The beautiful deconsecrated space now houses a food hall across three levels, with international artisans serving international food including bao, ramen and sushi.

Mercato Mayfair also hosts a microbrewery, a garden store and a wine bar, as well as events and activities year-round.

Sexy Fish

Situated on the corner of Berkeley Square, Richard Caring’s homage to Japanese cuisine happens to be a stone’s throw from REDD’s recently launched development 6 Charles Street.

The elegant interior contains works by Frank Gehry and Damien Hirst, as well as a collage ceiling by Vanity Fair editor Michael Roberts. The menu features delicious sushi and sashimi, and late-night options include lobster tempura and salt and pepper squid.

Delfino

Mayfair institution Delfino serves a menu of flavourful Italian classics including courgette and pomegranate salad and caccio e pepe with black truffle cream. Located on Mount Street, Delfino has been catering to Mayfair residents and visitors since 1953.

Clubs

Annabel’s

Possibly London’s most notorious club, Annabel’s on Berkeley Square combines glamour and opulence with the discretion and exclusivity demanded by its star-studded guestlist.

You have to be a member – or invited by one – to visit Annabel’s, where fine dining, cosy lounges and dancing await.

Dear Darling

Dear Darling Mayfair launched at the start of last year with a DJ set by Skepta, and has proved immediately popular with Londoners and tourists alike. Although it’s technically located just outside Mayfair, on Jermyn Street, the luxurious seating, open fires and classic music offer a distinctly W1J experience.

Spanning two subterranean levels, Dear Darling has comfortable lounge areas, a menu of inventive cocktails, and a private area for members.

Apollo’s Muse

Private member’s club Apollo’s Muse is located in an opulent space in the back of Richard Caring’s restaurant Bacchanalia on Mount Street. Available to just 500 members at a cost of £5,000 per year, it can confidently call itself London’s most exclusive club.

A masterclass in maximalism, Apollo’s Muse is decorated in floor-to-ceiling marble, with velvet seating, mirrored tables and priceless sculptures. Since its opening in 2023, the club has hosted launches for Balmain, Glenfidditch and Kate Moss’s perfume range.

Galleries

Flowers Gallery

Founded by British gallerist Angela Flowers, Flowers Gallery on Cork Street exhibits some of the world’s leading artists including John Keane and Nancy Fouts.

Flowers also has galleries in Shoreditch, Hong Kong and New York, but its Mayfair space is perhaps best known for its annual exhibition Small is Beautiful, which features more than 100 miniature artworks by a range of seasoned and up-and-coming artists.

Over two weeks in the summer, the gallery also hosts Artist of the Day, showcasing work by a different artist each day selected by a curator.

Gagosian Galleries

Mayfair plays host to three spaces by LA gallerist Larry Gagosian: one in the Burlington Arcade, one on Davies Street, and the largest on Grosvenor Hill designed by architects Caruso St John.

The Grosvenor Hill and Burlington Arcade spaces are currently housing exhibitions by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, while the Davies Street branch soon launches Situation Comedy, an exhibition of new paintings by American visual artist and curator Derrick Adams.

Halcyon Galleries

Halcyon’s flagship space is housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building on New Bond Street. The gallery owns works by Warhol, Renoir, Picasso and Monet, and has represented artists including Dominic Harris and James McQueen.

Halcyon’s current exhibition, ‘David Hockney Living in Colour’, comprises the world’s largest collection of Hockney graphics and runs until 23rd February. A short walk away at 29 New Bond Street, visitors can view an exhibition of art and lyrics by Bob Dylan.
